Joseph H. Pilates was born in 1880. During World War 1 Pilates developed a unique system of exercising the body.
At Inspire, our classes are based on Modern Pilates, which combines recent sports science research and knowledge about fitness and exercise with his original teachings. A great exercise class for toning, especially your important postural muscles which are often neglected, many people also find Pilates classes relaxing (we think it’s something to do with the fact you are mainly lying down in a darkened room!).
Benefits of Pilates:
- Great for developing core strength and stability
- Easily adaptable depending on your ability and fitness level
- Often recommended by GPs and Physiotherapists for back backs and other postural problems
- Useful in aiding injury recovery
- A relaxing pace, although we make sure the classes still stretch you!
Pilates as a discipline attracts loyal and unwavering support. It can make dramatic differences to your body, especially your core area and pelvic floor. Gentle classes can be easily adapted to ensure that different training needs and considerations can be taken into account and you can work as hard as you want or need to.
