Running is perhaps the easiest and hardest of activities. It’s a bit like Marmite – you either love it or hate it!

Running is great, because apart from a good pair of trainers (which is essential, and we say this with our best serious face on – because good trainers are crucial to avoiding injury!), you need very little to get started.

Benefits of running:

  • You need virtually nothing to get started – apart from good trainers
  • You can do it anytime that suits you, you’re not limited to a timetable
  • You can do it wherever suits you – close to home, round the park, wherever you fancy!
  • You will quickly see progress and it’s easily measurable
  • Entering races can be a great motivator and give you something tangible to aim for

Some people swear they’re just not made for running, but often it’s these people who catch the bug and go on to become great, regular runners! It does take a bit of getting used to, and it’s important not to push yourself too early. Variety in your running routine also helps with building strength, endurance and aerobic fitness.
